How much socializing is there?

It depends on how much you want.  In general, common meals happen at least twice a week, and there is some sort of organized event once or twice a month. In 2009, our first year in residence, the events team organized community events for summer solstice, a Hannukah party, a potluck dinner on Christmas Day and games for New Years Day.  Much of the connections also happen through our teams and through the many work parties. Most of us assume that people leave their homes when they want community and retreat into them when they do not.

Since a lot of the socializing is spontaneous, how much of it you experience will depend in part on how much you are around, on how tightly you schedule your time, or whether you have unusual work hours.  If you are gone a lot or find it difficult to respond to spur-of-the-moment invitations, you won’t experience as much of what Columbia Ecovillage has to offer as you would if you like to hang out a lot.
